Time to Get Packing!

Yes, I'll be leaving for a trip come Monday! (and yes, I haven't really packed!, okay so far I've gotten out two shirts, one pair of jeans, two formal shirts and one sweater) I just realised I have to fill my mp3 player with tons of songs so I have some music that I actually enjoy onboard and during transit. (and yes, food)

On the bright side, I'll have internet access over there so I guess I'll be able to blog about my trip and put up photos! Now all I gotta do is to endure the trip there and back -_-

Okay, back to packing =(

HELP!

Gosh, i had to restart my laptop...four times just to get the wireless working properly. I think I seriously need help with this, I can't seem to figure what's wrong! I checked through the settings and all, but the connection just 'kills' itself whenever it wants to. Best bit? after that happens, I can't detect any networks after that.

Any kind soul able to help me with this? (pleaseeeeeee?) My laptop's still new (only slightly over a month old) =(
Do email me, contact me on msn, leave a comment etc! I'll need it to work properly so I can use it during my trip to Glasgow =(

Love Story

Okay, while I'm running out of love, here's something for those who read this sad little blog, hopefully it fills your heart with some sort of warm, fuzzy feeling (if that's what love is supposed to feel like)

PS: do stop the blog song first! =)

"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.".... Hans Christian Andersen

Love Story

We were both young when I first saw you
I closed my eyes and the flashback starts
I'm standing there
On a balcony in summer air

See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
I see you make your way through the crowd
And say hello
Little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said, "stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, please don't go
And I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

So, I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while

Oh oh
Cause you were Romeo, I was the scarlet letter
And my daddy said, "stay away from Juliet"
But you were my everything to me
I was begging you, please don't go
And I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

Romeo, save me
They try to tell me how I feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

Oh oh

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you is fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town
And I said

Romeo, save me
I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head
I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
And said

Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad
Go pick out a white dress
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

Best of Me

(Okay, those who loved Daniel Powter's Next Plane Home, please do not be upset with me for changing the blog's song)

Here's the first track on Under the Radar by Daniel Powter, titled Best of Me. When I first heard this song, the chorus really struck me (except that it was the thought of how girls usually get upset cause it's what the guys did NOT do). Anywho, do take a listen, i think the song really grows on you, feel free to share your thoughts about it (or email me if you wanna). As usual, here are the lyrics for viewing =) .

(ps: I got the lyrics off the internet, but have edited it due to some errors in it)

Best of Me

I was made the wrong way
Won't you do me the right way
Where you gonna be tonight
'cause i won't stay too long

Maybe you're the light for me
When you talk to me it strikes me
Won't somebody help me
'cause i don't feel too strong

Was it something that i said
Was it something that i did
Or the combination of both that did me in

You know i'm hoping you sing along
I know it's not your favorite song
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left to say
You know that some of us spin again
When you do, you need a friend
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left for me
And i hate the thought of finally being erased
Baby that's the best of me

Everything's behind you
But the hope still stands beside you
Living in a moment
Have i wasted all your time

Was it something that i said
Was it something that i did
Or the combination i broke that did me in

You know i'm hoping you sing along
I know it's not your favorite song
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left to say
You know that some of us spin again
When you do, you need a friend
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left for me
And i hate the thought of finally being erased
Baby that's the best of me
Baby that's the best of me

You know i'm hoping you sing along
I know it's not your favorite song
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left to say
You know that some of us spin again
When you do, you need a friend
Don't wanna be there when there's nothing left for me
And i hate to thought of finally being erased
Baby that's the best of me

Excerpts from Seventeen

Ways to Tell He'll be a Good Boyfriend

He Makes You Laugh
Laughing at the same jokes means you understand each other on a very deep level - it's like the foundation on which strong relationships are built.

He Confides in You
A guy who tells you things he hides from his friends, like his stress over a bio test, trusts you. He's connecting on a personal level because he wants to strengthen the relationship.

He Asks you Questions
When he takes an active interest in your life, it says that he respects the things that are important to you. He values your opinion and wants you to be an equal in the relationship

He Disagrees with You
A guy who argues a little isn't afraid to be himself around you - he'll never be an annoying lapdog. If he lets you disagree with him, it shows he's a good communicator, which makes it easier to work through any future issues!

A Bag of Cookies

A Bag of Cookies

A women was queueing and waiting to board her flight.
While waiting...she decided to wait in the VIP room instead.
So she purchased a book and a packet of cookies.
She then sat down in the VIP room to read her book.

Beside the arm rest where the pack of cookies were, sat a man.
Whenever the women took a piece of cookie, the man took one too.
The women was angry but decided to let it off since she's in a good mood.
Then she took a second piece of cookie...
The man took his second piece too.
She thought:"This is INFURIATING!!!"
But decided not to pursue the matter.

When the packet was left with the last piece of cookie...
the women thought:"Aha! Whats he gonna do now.."
Amazingly, the man took the last piece of cookie, broke it into half and gave
the other half to the women.
The women was frustrated...she dashed out of the VIP room
and boarded the plane.

When she opened her bag to get some things...
She realised that her packet of cookies was full and untouched!
She was shocked!
And at the same time ashamed of herself.
She had misunderstood that man
because that pack of cookies she just ate doesn't belong to her
but the man still willingly shared his cookies with a stranger without
saying a word.

She wanted to apologise but its impossible
as the man is not taking the same flight as her.
Thus, she never had the chance to do so.

The message behind this story is...
Words said,cannot be taken back.
Time past cannot be turned back.
Water poured out cannot be retrieved.

In life...many unpleasant situations are caused by misunderstandings

(do feel free to comment here or mail me!) The current song playing is Next Plane Home, his first single from the album.

oh yes, here's the lyrics for those who would love to sing along =)

Next Plane Home

I woke up early to baby blue eyes from afar whoah whoah
and when the sun comes through and lights you like the angel you are whoah whoah
I know I do you wrong when I’m with you I’ve been gone

With every season change, it looks the same (november to june) whoah whoah
And don't these empty streets skip a beat the flowers don't bloom whoah whoah

I can’t believe I missed your birthday again
and I wanna come back but I just don’t know when now

And I’m so lonely you're not here with me
That’s why I’m gonna be on the next plane home

The road that never ends around the bend I see your smile whoah whoah
I’d swim across the sea to be with you for a while whoah whoah
cos I’ve made a life of being gone
now the way that I feel I just don’t belong

And I’m so lonely you’re not here with me
thats why I’m gonna be on the next plane home
And you’re you’re the only face I wanna see
thats why I’m gonna be on the next plane home

Stand around try to make every moment
and be somebody yeah anybody
it seems the whole world is taking me over
I need somebody to help me get back to it

and I’ve always been a million miles away
but things are gonna change
I just wanna come home

And you’re you’re the only face I wanna see
thats why I gonna be on the next plane home
yeah I’m taking the next plane home
Now I’m getting the next plane home
Now I’m taking the next plane home

How to Save A Life

you knew and know this is one of my favourite songs, now i'm dedicating this to you..(you know who you are)

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Note to all: This is the acoustic version of the song =)

Can I Borrow $25?

Some food for thought..

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'

DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.

SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.

SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'

SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.

'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

Blog author's note:

Sometimes when we get caught up with life, we fail to see things happening around us. This story is a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us and are close to our hearts. Money can be earned anytime, but if you miss out on a loved one's life, you can never earn it back. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

Scientists for Better PCR

okay, I know how many of you will probably comment how much of a nerd I am after seeing this video.(pls do pause the blog song first! it's located below the countdown timer on the right =) ) It was made by Bio-Rad for their new 1000-Series Thermal Cyclers.

(PCR: Polymerase chain reaction is a technique widely used to amplify specific regions of DNA,it could be a single gene, a part of a gene, or a non-coding sequence. - basically so scientists have more starting material to work with)

lyrics included below the video!

There was a time when to amplify DNA,
You had to grow tons and tons of tiny cells.

Then along came a guy named Dr. Kary Mullis,
Said you can amplify in vitro just as well.

Just mix your template with a buffer and some primers,
Nucleotides and polymerases, too.

Denaturing, annealing, and extending.
Well it’s amazing what heating and cooling and heating will do.

PCR, when you need to detect mutations.
PCR, when you need to recombine.
PCR, when you need to find out who the daddy is.
PCR, when you need to solve a crime.

(repeat chorus)

Hmm

Okay, I know I said I'd blog soon, here's something for some thought. Maybe it's just me (or maybe not), but I've never thought the comparison between JCs and Polytechnics was about academic prowess, but more of whether one knew what they wanted.

During my time as a Course Counsellor at my polytechnic's Open House, I'd always gave this advice to students who were unsure on which to pick : If you know surely the career path you want in future,go ahead and pick a course in a polytechnic. But if you're still unsure, but know roughly you're interested in the Arts or Science career paths, then go to a JC.

Unfortunately for my thinking though, having recently been judged as to have entered a polytechnic due to my inability to enter a JC. I never knew that sort of thinking still existed. The last I checked, the entry score to the exact course I did, is a score of 10 points. Assuming the student scores a C6 and below for the last subect taken into consideration for entry into a JC, the student will still be eligible.

Sometimes, I really wonder, must the debate between a JC and polytechnic choice be about academic prowess? (at least judging from the recent trend in recent years)

Anyway, that aside, I better start hitting my books!
