Currently, Massa is setting new records for the first F1 GP night race on his practice laps, will he take pole position on Sunday? Three names on the lookout for Sunday's race are Lewis Hamilton (Mclaren-Mercedes), Felipe Massa (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Renault)

PaperChase

I had actually started writing on another topic, but something cropped up, so I decided to shelf that first and start on this.

I'm sure alot of people know how life is pretty much a Paperchase. You go through the different levels of education, with the mentality of getting that degree, or Masters etc.

But what I would like to ask my readers is:

"Does NOT having a degree make you any lesser of a person?"

or simply the fact that :

"Being a polytechnic graduate makes you lesser of a person"

In the recent years, I've come to know of a few who seem to still perceive the thought that polytechnic graduates are not as good as students from junior colleges, which honestly, was indeed true in the past,(i'm talking like 20, 30 yrs back) but that does not stand true now.

I blame that sterotyped thought on the lack of understanding of what a polytechnic student has to undergo during their three years of study. Contrary to what many think, being in a polytechnic isn't all about partying. Much of the time is actually spent not just on tutorials and lectures, but also in preparation for presentations and projects. In each semester, there are times when there are 6-7 presentations/projects (in a week) to be graded.

Think polytechnic education is just training for your own course? Not quite right. The polytechnics actually offer a broad-based education throughout the three years, and these include Sports, taking up a third language and Professional Development. (And yes, we do have CCAs) (Did i mention that these 'electives' are also examinable?)

Many don't know that unlike scoring in the A Levels, the overall GPA (Grade Point Average) is actually the total grades attained over six semesters, divided by the number of credits(also attained over six semesters). In other words, if you don't perform consistently over the three years of education, it will be reflected in the graduating GPA. Think polytechnic is really that easy now?

ANYWAY..back to Paperchasing..

Someone recently implied to me that not having a degree makes me lesser a person.Honestly, I really don't see how that works. The term 'hindered employability' came up. (Which, really, isn't true. Employers that I have worked for and spoken to have said that they rather hire a polytechnic graduate rather than a degree holder, reason being that polytechnic grads have had at least 2 years of hands-on training - not including their internships, yes polytechnic students actually do undergo internships at overseas placements such as the University of Manchester, etc)

Many undergrads I know of, when asked " What would you want to do after you graduate?", always seem to say "I'm not sure, never really thought about it yet." So really, is it the need for a degree that we just simply do some blind paperchasing that we forget to stop and think further ahead - about the jobs we might be open to upon graduation ? or are we just chasing that paper just cause we have to?

Books, Environment and some soul

okay! here's a really interesting website i came across. It's called BetterWorld.com

It's aka the online store with a soul. This is where you can buy both new and/or used books online, have them delivered to you, and the money is used to fund high-impact literacy projects in the United States and around the world. In addition, the company has also diverted more than 7,000 tons of books from landfills.

Plus, you can sell/donate your books to BetterWorld Books!
(and it's free! all you have to do is to print the shipping label)

Do your bit for education and the environment by getting (and selling/donating) books from (to) BetterWorld.com =)

Jason Mraz

been listening to Jason Mraz's new album lately..will do a review on it soon..(but i'm ABSOLUTELY in love with it!)

Love

I promised someone I blog something, just for him, so here I am, keeping my promise. I know how the saying goes "Promises are meant to be broken" But no, I don't really quite believe in that. Today's supposed to be a good (perhaps great) day, but it pretty much turned out otherwise. For some reason, I don't quite understand why it would be difficult to reply a simple message, or to inform someone that you'd be busy, and will reply asap (instead of just keeping real quiet and still not contacting the person after you're done)

In any case, there's this song that's been stuck (still stuck) in my head, I pretty much put it up on my blog as well, (sharing my joy kinda thing). It's actually Lucky by Jason Mraz ft Colbie Calliat. I love the lyrics to the song, they're so sweet!

They don't know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I'll wait for you I promise you, I will

I know how many people might say love is over-rated.Maybe it is, but I guess it's one of those things that makes Life a little better (and definitely much harder too). Oh well, I believe that for everyone, there's someone out there, it's just a matter of time. =)

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I'm lucky we're in love in every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

I've always believed that close friends and lovers are pretty much a love-hate relationship. They're the people that you might really hate for one moment, but yet you know they're the ones you really love as well. Perhaps it's the thought that the more you know someone, and the closer you get, when things change (even if a little), the fuses are pretty much really short.

But it's nice knowing your lover becomes your best friend (and your worst, in arguments), the one you'd want to return to everyday, where you know you can rant about your day, talk through your troubles, find comfort and yes, reveal your inner child ..all without having to worry about a third party hearing it..

You're my best friend
You're my lover.
I'm so lucky to be in love with you

I'm Lucky =)

"Do you hear me,
I'm talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky oh my, baby I'm trying
Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make ... Read Moreit easier when life gets hard

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
I'm lucky we're in love in every way"

More things coming up! =)

Dog Calls 911

Buddy and his owner, Joe Stalnaker

No, it's not a joke..it really happened in Phoenix when a German shepherd, Buddy, remembered his training and saved his owner's life by dialing 911 when the man had a seizure. Guess what? It's not the first time Buddy has done this for his owner. Talk about 'Man's best friend' =)Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after the dispatcher answers and repeatedly asks if the caller needs help. The police arrived at the scene and heard Buddy barking loudly.

Thanks to Buddy, his owner, Joe Stalnaker spent two days in the hospital and recovered from the seizure. Stanlnaker's address was flagged in Scottsdale's system with a notification that a trained assistance dog could call 911 when the owner was incapacitated.

Apparently, Buddy was adopted at the age of 8 weeks from Michigan-based Paws with a Cause, which trains assistance dogs. Buddy is now 18 months old and is able to press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line.

Buddy made two other 911 calls when his owner was having seizures!

Slim, Sleek and Sexy

Okay, I went for casting for a TVC today..hopefully I get it, it was uber fun really, and all the other talents were nice =)

And for those wondering, yes, I didn't sneeze at all during the entire casting. (Yay!..I've been sneezing my head off the past few days) I'm terribly sorry about not having any pictures, i need to borrow the transfer cable first.=( Oh yes , I had an awfully difficult time trying to fall asleep yesterday..(i blame it on listening to fast-paced music), instead of falling asleep, my mind was more interested in telling my body to get up and dance..all these at ...4.35 am! -_-

I think I really should stop listening to fast paced music right before I sleep..

Alritey..heard about the launch of the new iPod nanos? I LOVE the colours! And really, the Nano has been given a new lease of life! It now comes in 8 refreshing colours (8GB version) and 9 colours (16GB).

The functions available are pretty much the same, however, it now has a spoken menu which allows listeners to hear many of the names of menus, song titles, and artists without viewing the screen. Love the song you're listening to currently? The Genius function which, when activated, finds songs in your music library that goes great together with the current song you're listening to and compiles it into a Genius playlist! Talk about having a personal Dj!

Want to look at more albums at one go? Tilt your nano on its side and your screen flows the way it's tilted! Now, you can view your photos/videos either in a portrait or landscape view! Oh yes, don't worry about the photo ratios, your photos will still look great on the 320 by 240 resolution display.

Ever felt it was a trouble to use the click wheel to change songs? Well, the new nano allows for users to give your iPod a shake, and it shuffles to a different song on your playlist! Great for those who love unpredictability =)

Games anyone? Now you can get in on games made especially for iPod nano and the accelerometer. They respond to the way you move, so they’re addictive and a blast. The new iPod nano comes with Maze, which lets you work your way through vast mazes by tilting and moving.

Oh yes, did I mention it's got the world's biggest small screen? Watching videos on your 2 inch widescreen display has never been more fun. Just in time for the holiday season, the new iPod Nano is on sale now, $248 (8GB) and $328 (16GB). Talk about slim, sleek and fun =)

Singapore and Michelin

Singapore and Michelin? Yes. Michelin (no, not the tyre manufacturing side, the side that publishes the Red & Green Guides) has ranked our very own Raffles Hotel, Botanic Gardens, Night Safari and Singapore Zoological Gardens among that of the Paris Eiffel Tower and New York Empire State Building. The French lifestyle surveyors gave our tourist attractions a 3-star rating (which sets them on par with the Eiffel Tower and NY Empire State Building) and is also the first time that they are publishing a travel guide on Singapore.

Singapore, alongside other Asian countries such as China, Japan and Thailand were among the 25 countries picked by Michelin for publication.

To rank the sites, writers anonymously visited the attractions and assessed them according to criteria such as authenticity, aesthetics, service quality and convenience.

One out of every five visitors to Singapore consults a guidebook before they arrive.
Well, I'm sure this will certainly boost our tourism a fair bit!

America's Got Talent Kaitlyn Maher

I was watching America's Got Talent and I was very touched by her voice, only children have that innocence in them.( her answer from whether she's from NYC is so cute!)

Wall-E (plus some bonus links)

Wall-e is an animated film about a bot designed to clean up a polluted Earth by Pixar Animated Studios. 700 years after the earth becomes too toxic, Wall-e (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) remains the only unit operational. Wall-e develops a sense of curiosity and collects items he finds interesting among the refuse, gathering parts for himself from deactivated Wall-Es.

He enjoys watching a videotape of the 1969 musical film, Hello, Dolly!. Wall-E learns emotions, especially the act of holding hands, which he deems as being in love. One day, while going about his job, Wall-E finds a seedling, which he replants in an old boot. Shortly after, Eve (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) arrives and begins on a directive to search for signs of plant life.

The plot thickens as Eve finds the seedling and Wall-E follows her into the depths of space.
(shan't spoil the good parts)

In my opinion, Wall-E is very much a romantic comedy, worth watching with your loved ones and family. Oh yes, do be seated early to catch an animated short film Presto, also by Pixar Animated Studios. Iin the meantime, here's some links which feature Wall-E encountering some daily items. (similarly, do drop by the official Wall-E website via my widget!) Enjoy!

The things that matter..

This story is one that carried me through my school days, and I would love to share this with the people that matter to me.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I had a dream. I dreamed
I was walking along the beach with the LORD,
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life
for each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
one set belonged to me, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us

I looked back at the footprints in the sand
and I noticed that many times along the path of
life there was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in my life.

This really bothered me,
so I questioned the LORD about it

One set of footprints in the sand
Lord you promised me you'd hold my hand
tell me why in the troubled times
I looked back and only find
one set of footprints in the sand

LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way.
But I've noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there's only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why in times when
I needed you most you should leave me.

and the LORD replied

My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering,
when you saw only one set of footprints in the sand it was then that I was carrying you.

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. "~ James 1:12:

PS: Loads of thanks to Daniel for the verse =)

Some words Women Use

I received this in an email and wanted to share it with you guys =)

Some Words Women Use

1)Fine:
This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2)Five Minutes:
If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3)Nothing:
This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4)Go Ahead:
This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5)Loud Sigh:
This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6)That's Okay:
This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7)Thanks:
A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (Note: This is generally true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' ... that will bring on a 'whatever').

(8)Whatever:
Is a women's way of saying F**** YOU! (Note: or it could just be her saying "ya.Sure.")

(9)Don't worry about it, I got it:
Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
